Philip-normal Activity

Like many others last weekend, I saw paranormal activity. Unlike most people however, I thought it was boring and not scary. While I was watching the movie I thought how the movie could be better, and that's when it hit me; the boyfriend in the movie is just like our good friend Phillip Rivers. Then I thought, what if the character was Phillip Rivers; this is what was written after that thought.

A new bowl game brewing?

For those who have yet to experience the awesomeness that is the UFL you might just get your chance soon as the UFL's best team, the Florida Tuskers, have basically called out the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. You can't deny that the Tuskers have a point, they are a far more successful this year than the NFL team that they share a state with. Of course even if the Tuskers did manage to defeat the Bucs, they would still get slaughtered by just about any other team in the NFL (except the Rams or the Browns of course).

The new guy in Tennessee

Titans Coach Jeff Fisher will be revealing who will be the starting QB for the team this week today, according to PFT. Now while most of you might think that the obvious choice would be the awesome Vince Young, or the old Kerry Collins. However, we here at 18-1 feel these choices are too obvious, and that Jeff Fisher will make a pick from outside the box.

Off Topic Tuesday: 08/27/09

Hello reader, welcome to the first addition of Off-Topic Tuesday here at 18-1. This is the weekly column where I, Ted Shaw, will be your guide to a specific thing that is bugging me and I want to rant about. There are no specific rules or guidelines to what that could be, only that it will not be sports related.

Because it's only the first week for this, I thought I would post a piece I submitted to my school paper (The Mirror), but was rejected, probably for being way too awesome. Keep in mind this was written in september, and the topic is relevant to the time. That being said it's funny, and you should read it, because I wrote it goddamnit!

Best of NFL Week 7

From Saints fighting Dolphins to the death, to Brett Favre being Brett Favre and Brett Farving to the Steelers for his first Brett Favre this season, it was a pretty exciting week in the NFL. Here's just a quick recap of this weeks best games and moments

Week 8 Power Rankings

This week was the week of the blowout. Almost half of the games had a 3 TD or more difference in scoring. We learned some things about the top teams and the bottom teams, but the middle is just a jumbled, close mess. Rankings after the break.

Will The Real Michael Jordan Please Stand Up?

It's Friday, which will now be known as Friday's Sports Feature, where we talk about other sports for just a little bit.

Today's topic involves the NBA

Everyone knows about Kobe's tarnished public image. He's not alone as other NBA or former NBA stars have their fair share of haters; Ron Artest, Charles Barkley and Dennis Rodman are to name a few. What about one of the most renowned basketball players of all time? With six championships under his belt, a hugely successful shoe line, millions of dollars in endorsements and ad campaigns, and millions of fans worldwide, most assume Michael Jordan is a great man. Is there any truth to this assumption? I used to think so until some recent digging swayed my opinion. Check out this video after the break from rapper Chamillionaire first that tells the story of how MJ spit racial slurs at him, denied to take a picture, and told him to pay for a MJ jersey that was already paid for in a charity auction.

Week 7 Power Rankings

Before you read on, first check out the ESPN Power Rankings here.

As any NFL fan can tell, the superstar writers over at ESPN have rankings that are moronic flawed. So we thought it would be a good idea to fix them best we can. Not to say we are right, just hopefully more on track than they are. Of course we at 18-1 encourage as many comments and edits from the readers as possible. Because we, unlike some people at ESPN, are not bandwagoning dictators. Rankings after the jump.

Starting off with a bang

Obviously 18-1 has just launched, so it's going to be awhile before we really get the hang of things here, as we have alot of work to do. From photo shopping new site banners to just getting used to the mechanics of this blog, it's going to be a work in progress, so let me be the first to say, 'excuse our mess'.

Anyway, I don't really have any real news or features to add yet, so instead im just going to post a couple of good links for you all to enjoy. 2nd video after the jump.

Philly Rivers beaten by a mere high school QB? Say it ain't so! I wonder if he'll trash talk the kid about missing the honor roll.
