The Raiders are Still Retarded

Big things. That's what the Raiders promised everyone before the 2010 NFL season began, as they had one of the most productive off-seasons in the league. Not only did they finally ditch modern day Ryan Leaf, Jamarcus Russell, but they were able to get Jason Campbell from the Redskins for next to nothing. Combine this with their first smart draft in years, and Oakland now has a chance to win their division. Of course, things did not turn out that way as the season began. The Raiders lost two of the first three games of the season to Tennessee and Arizona, eventually leading to the Jason Campbell being benched in favor of Bruce Gradakowski.

JaMarcus released, Oakland rejoices

Move over Ryan Leaf, there's a new sheriff in the town of NFL Draft Busts. Despite being picked first overall in the 2007 draft, being given a 6-year contract worth up to $68 million with $31.5 million guaranteed, JaMarcus Russell has been released by the Oakland Raiders. Al Davis' golden boy ends his career in silver and black after starting only 31 games in three seasons, and passing for only 18 touchdowns, while throwing 23 interceptions. It is the earliest a first overall pick has ever been released by the team that drafted him. Apart from his inability to play quarterback, JaMarcus was constantly overweight and failed to attend team meetings, instead going to Vegas to throw away the ridiculous amount of money that was handed to him by the Raiders for doing..well...nothing.

Whether he is a bigger draft bust than Ryan Leaf is still up for debate, as Leaf passed for only 14 touchdowns in his 25 game career across two teams (Chargers and Cowboys). However, Leaf's contract with the Chargers for 4-years was only worth $31.25 million with an $11.25 million signing bonus. Yes, JaMarcus was given just as much money to sit on the bench as Ryan Leaf was supposed to earn over four years. If he isn't the biggest bust in terms of skill, JaMarcus is certainly the biggest financial bust of all time.

LT, the new Favre?

With Ladainian Tomlinson becoming a Jet, the comparison between him and Brett Favre is inevitable. Both are future hall of famers, and were replaced by their teams that they had helped to carry throughout their entire career. In both situations, each player found a new home with the Jets, who hope(ed) to squeeze the last of the talent that each player had left toward their benefit.

The comparison took a more direct turn though, as Profootball talk reported that LT went to Favre for advice on his predicament. Some believe that Brett Favre was attempting to coax Tomlinson into joining the Vikings, however that is somewhat unlikely as the former cheesehead has yet to state whether he is returning for next season or not yet (Hint: 9 to 10 chance he will).

What is particularly strange about this is that after speaking with Favre, LT later went to join the Jets. Did Favre recommend New York as a good place for Tomlinson to find a new home for the time being? Though he signed a 2-year contract with the Jets, will this all lead to LT leaving New York in the 2011 season to seek revenge against the Chargers? Is Brett Favre the secret head of the NFL Players Association? Could this all be some evil plan by Al Davis to have LT play QB for the Raiders? Only time will tell

Riding the Bench

Because what else are we supposed to do for the Raiders? Honestly.

Raiders Ink Best Player to New Contract

Sources at from the Associated Press report that the Oakland Raiders signed Kicker Sabastian Janikowski to a new 4 year, $16 million deal today. He is guaranteed $9 million from this deal. Good to see the Raiders quickly spending money on franchise players to turn this organization around.
