Team Outlooks: AFC East

These lists will go in order of last years division standings, and I will not be predicting standings here. This is just an objective view on what has happened with these teams over the offseason and a general educated guess of how they will fair in 2010.

Take the Bills out of the equation and the AFC East could be the best division in football. In all honesty, either the Jets, Dolphins or Patriots could win this division, and whoever wins this division will be battle tested for the playoffs and be a team no one wants to face in the Divisional Round. More after the break.

New England Patriots

Once again, this is not your older brother's Patriots squad. After a wild day last week where Brady was involved in a car accident and a big contract extension, things may be settling down over there. All they have to do is get Randy Moss to play nice. This were all peachy for the first few years, but now Randy is getting a little uneasy in a Patriots uniform. He says he feels unwanted or under appreciated or something stupid.

Luckily for Brady, Wes Welker will be ready to play in week 1. It remains to be seen if he can just catch every little pass Brady throws, and then get 10 yards after the catch and make Brady look good as he spams the screen pass. I think he will do fine though. The Pats still have a strange running game. I don't know who will get the carries, but I don't Bellicheck cares as he doesn't run it anyways.

Their defense could be on a quick fall to mediocrity. Last year it started, and this year it could be even worse. That being said, this still is Brady and Bellicheck, and they always find a way to play their division rivals well. So don't be too surprised if they are fighting for a playoff position come week 15 or so.

New York Jets

Ladies and gentlemen, don't bother with the 2010-2011 season. Your Super Bowl Champions are already here, at least that's what the Jets say. Don't believe them though, they are just a fat guy in a green shirt. I mean, yes they have a great defense and arguably the best pass defense in the league, and they DID run the ball really well LAST year, but who knows how far that will all take them. It's a new running team this season, and no matter what they still have Mark Sanchez at QB and no USC QB has won anything important ever in the NFL.
Also, this is the best picture in the world
Speaking of the passing game, they added a lot of different players this offseason. Too bad Jericho Cotchery is still their best WR, and Santonio Holmes won't play for a while due to suspension, and like I said, they still have Dirty Sanchez trying to throw the ball to them.

Miami Dolphins

Ya'll don't believe us, but try to keep an open mind here. They could very well be the best team in this division. Maybe it's some blind faith I have in Chad Henne based on what I saw last year. Maybe it is because Ronnie and Ricky are both coming back healthy and ready to rumble. Maybe it's the way they hit hard on offense and defense, and they added Karlos Dansby to an already tough D, or how Chad now has a legit #1 in Brandon Marshall to throw to instead of just Ted "I drop everything" Ginn.

Or maybe it is all of the above. The way Vontae Davis covered Randy Moss last year as a ROOKIE was incredibly impressive. I think he could be the next Darrelle Revis rookie turned best CB in the league. Besides him though, they still need to improve in their secondary. On offense they are now the most balanced team in their division. The Pats can only pass, the Jets can only run, but the Dolphins can run, pass, and wildcat. Ronnie brown is a BEAST as long as he can stay healthy, and even if he does it's not like Ricky Williams is much of a drop off in talent. Chad Henne looked very impressive many times last year. Now with a full year of starting under his belt he could have a great season. Especially with Brandon Marshall on the team. I'm looking for big things from those two this year, as well as big things from this team.

Buffalo Bills

They've done nothing, but lose players to IR recently. Their one positive gain was drafting C.J. Spiller, who could come close to 1,000 yards, but the rest of the team is garbage by comparison so in the end run it won't make a difference. I feel bad for Lee Evans, as he has the talent to be a top 10 receiver in this league, but he is stuck on the Bills for now.

Three wins maximum.
I miss Jim Kelly
End.
