As any NFL fan can tell, the superstar writers over at ESPN have rankings that are moronic flawed. So we thought it would be a good idea to fix them best we can. Not to say we are right, just hopefully more on track than they are. Of course we at 18-1 encourage as many comments and edits from the readers as possible. Because we, unlike some people at ESPN, are not bandwagoning dictators. Rankings after the jump.
| With Peyton on a record breaking pace and a defense that's allowing the 2nd least PPG, the Colts are sure to stay #1 after this week's game against the last rakned Rams.
| After last weeks picking apart of the Giants secondary, Brees is now 2nd in the league in passing TD's even with a bye week. the Saints give up points but cause plenty of turnovers.
| The Giants huge flaw is obvious, and with the pass happy Cards, Eagles and Chargers up next they might struggle. When Boley and Ross return after the bye they will hopefully improve.
| Think of Kyle Orton as the new Pennington, he won't put up huge numbers, but he won't make mistakes. His fantastic redzone play is leading the Broncos to victories.
| The Falcons big loss to the Patriots was going into their bye week so there shouldn't be too big of a concern there. Offense is stellar, the only problem is their defense, except for the D Line.
| Undefeated, but that fat zero in the loss column doesn't reflect the luck the Vikings in squeaking out a few wins. They need to defiantly beat a good team to prove themselves.
| Throw out last week, the Pats aren't feared like they used to be. Minus the Saints and Colts matchup though, they have a pretty easy remaining schedule.
| Ochocinco is playing like old Chad Johnson which is helping Palmer come back from last years failure... Defense is playing well, Andre Johnson was the only #1 WR to expose the Bengals.
| Now that Cutler is learning this offense they can erase week 1 and look forward to improving more over the season as Da Bears young offense gets into sync.
| 3 straight tough loses to good teams and the Ravens are sitting at .500. Fortunatley they have a great defense and Flacco has been clutch. I think they will turn it around.
| Turnovers and a almost non existent offensive line hurt the Steelers, but with Troy back their defense has it's identity again. Another Super Bowl run looks grim but not out of the question
| The huge loss before their bye week against the Falcons isn't as bad as it looks. Coach Mike should whip them into shape for that, and adding Gore and Crabtree should boost the Niners offense.
| They still have a strong defense and rushing game, but Sanchez is finally playing like a rookie. If the JEST can turn him around look for a team wide turn-around.
| After starting off like a cupcake, their defense is on a roll, if they can stay decent the high powered offense could carry the Texans to a winning season or more.
| The Eagles crush bad teams like a good team should, but the Raiders game was embarrassing. They have so much talent but it's a tale of two teams here.
| Rush defense is fantastic, pass defense well, isn't... WR injuries plague the Cards still so don't expect a repeat of last year.
| The Phins started slow last year too. Henne looks good and they really needed this bye week to prepare for their tough schedule coming up. They are a better team than the record will show.
| Ignore Week One's gift from an adjusting Cutler and the Pack haven't beaten anyone good. The O-line isn't playing well and the rest of the team needs to prove themselves in the coming weeks.
| "Corporate Americas Team" really misses having T.O. They struggled against the Chiefs and really need to step up on defense since they have talent. Romo isn't what people used to think he was.
| Passing game is working well in the first 3 quarters but I'm still waiting for Rivers to go all "PHILLIP RIVERRRSSS" late in the 4th. The Chargers' defense is struggling and LT clearly isn't the same.
| They take advantage of bad teams, other than that the lack of good RB's and injuries everywhere make the Seahawks lose to everyone else.
| They listened to MJD and just give him the ball and see success. Garrard to Mike Sims Walker works well but the Jags offense just isn't powerful enough to make up for that "defense"
| It's 12 a.m. at the time of writing this and look! Delhomme just threw another INT... what happened to the Panthers of last year?
| Luckily they have a bye week to get Stafford healthy, because without him the offense looks poor; but overall the Lions just aren't as bad as last year.
| The Bills defense is okay overall, but they give it up in the pass. The big problem is obvious, they just can't score. T.O. is washed up so it's time to just hand it off to Jackson and Lynch
| Somehow the Raiders managed to beat the Eagles after the debacle that was the game vs. the Giants. But as long as Jamarcus is at QB, they won't be a complete football team.
| We'll see how demoting Zorn from calling the plays helps the Redskins. This is definitely the last chance for Campbell so hopefully he shows up to play.
| The Chiefs handed the game to the Cowboys themselves, but then went the next week and beat the Skins. They aren't terrible, they just don't have anything great.
| Could be one of the winless teams, and without Edwards they barely have an offense. Also, the defense isn't good. The Browns are one of the worst in the league.
| Someone abducted last years Titans to go play in a league in another Galaxy, and replaced them with terrible impostors.
| This was expected from the Bucs. So many last second coaching changes and personnel changes lead to this type of season. Keeping Leftwitch benched is a good thing though as Johnson ads some spark.
| The Rams can't play defense and now with Avery hurt have no passing game. But hey! they've got SJax, but they can't block for him. 0-16? Their only chance to avoid it is vs. the Lions or Titans. |
