The Jets Misfit Passing Game

With the recent acquisition of "high-profile" wide receiver, Santonio Holmes from the Steelers, the Jets have "enhanced" their receiving core. This combined with the addition of Braylon Edwards last season from the Browns, the Jets have made a name out of their pass offense to go along with their top ranked run game and pass defense. The question is however, does this name come from talent or trouble? Hit the jump to find out.

You know when a team which has an alleged rapist as their quarterback cuts you for causing trouble that their are some issues you need to deal with. For Santonio Holmes, his most recent incident was breaking the league's substance abuse policy, or rather he got caught smoking reefer again. While raping women (allegedly) is ok with the Steelers and the NFL, smoking marijuana is no doubt a 4-game suspension and Dan Rooney just couldn't handle it anymore, so he shipped him off to the Jets for a 5th round draft pick.

In New York, Holmes will join fellow "stars" wide-receiver Braylon Edwards and quarterback Mark Sanchez where together they hope to make the Jets passing game somewhat credible. In 2009, the Jets had the 2nd worst passing offense in the league (only behind the Browns), but their top ranked run offense gave them the ability to overcome their lack of passing threat. However, do receivers such as butterfingers Braylon and Hemp Holmes actually help or hurt the Jets in their quest for a superbowl victory?

Though they traded next to nothing to acquire him, the Jets are taking a risk in this experiment with Santonio. The last team who attempted to fill their rosters with misfits (the cowboys) were rewarded with years of mediocrity, and losing in the first-round of the playoffs. While the Jets are obviously far more talented than that cowboys team was, they are exposing themselves to possible locker room cancers in their troublesome receivers. Before he was traded to the Jets last season, Braylon Edwards assaulted a friend of Lebron James outside of a nightclub, showing that Edwards is not only a troublemaker, but that he is also stupid enough to try to get on the bad side of the man who single handily runs the town you live in. Still none of these moves matter, because as long as the Jets have Mark Sanchez as their quarterback they will never win a superbowl.

Of course you can't blame the Steelers for wanting to get rid of the guy, since they have enough problems on their hands with Big Ben. Seriously, when Terry Bradshaw doesn't like you there is probably something wrong with you, because I think that guy likes everybody. This combined with their incompetent head coach, and it looks like the Steelers are headed for another lackluster season. Still what do you expect when you're head coach spends the off-season acting in a tv drama.

Maybe he should make House his QB
